Harvey Park's First
and Oldest Branch Library

HADLEY BRANCH LIBRARY

Hadley Branch Library opened its doors in June 1964, the first branch library constructed with taxpayer dollars.  It was named for Chalmers Hadley, the city librarian who founded the branch library system in the early 1900s.

By 1990, Hadley's cramped quarters could no longer serve its growing base of customers, In August of that year, voters approved a $91.6 million bond issue to fund a new Central Library building and $19.7 million worth of improvements to branch libraries. Dramatic renovation to Hadley Branch Library was completed and the library reopened in June, 1993.

Over the years, the library has been loved for its friendly staff, services to neighbors of all ages and a fine collection. The library offers not only books in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese but has many other types of materials. Hadley Branch Library has an extensive collection of videos in 3 languages, numerous books-on-tape, music compact discs for children, CD-ROM games, and magazines for people of all ages!
