Serving Harvey Park
and Bear Valley

The Bear Valley Library opened it's doors in 1972.  This modern looking library was built to replace a small store front library that served the neighborhood from space rented in the Bear Valley Shopping Center.  In 1993 the library was renovated to provide an updated décor, a more spacious new book area, updated wiring for more computers, and better wheelchair accessibility.

FACT & FICTION ABOUT CHILDREN’S BOOKS.

Did You Know….

  • Children’s books wear out five times as fast as adult books.
  • More than 40 percent of the books borrowed from DPL are children’s books.  Children’s book borrowing has more than tripled since 1990 to 4 million books in 1999.
  • Each month, more than 350 metro-Denver teachers depend on the “teacher sets” they borrow from DPL to support classroom lessons.  Every set has about 15 books.
  • The average shelf life of a nonfiction book for youth is some 18 months.  Of the thousands of books bought by the Library this month, most will be worn-out in a year or so.
