Denver Public Library Cards

To apply for a library card:

1.  Fill out the brief application form.

2.  Provide a picture ID and proof of current address.

3.  Children under thirteen need a parent or legal guardian to sign for them and to provide proof of address.

4.  Non-Denver residents may register their county’s library card to use in Denver or they may apply for a Denver card.

Lost or stolen cards should be reported immediately, as the cardholder is responsible for all materials (up to 300 items!) borrowed on that card.

Library cardholder benefits:

  • Your library card is valid at all the Denver Public Libraries.  You may also register to use your card at participating libraries throughout the state.  All of the surrounding counties, including Jefferson, Arapahoe, Englewood, Douglas, Park, & Boulder, will honor your Denver card.
  • All information about your library record is confidential.
  • You can borrow up to 300 items on your card!
  • Most books, books-on-tape, and books-on-CD, check out for three weeks.  They may be renewed up to three times (an additional nine weeks) unless another customer has requested them.
  • Videos check out for one week and may be renewed up to three times.
  • Magazines check out for one week but cannot be renewed.
  • As our CD and DVD collections are still relatively small, you may only check out up to seven at a time.  They check out for one week and cannot be renewed.
  • Items may be renewed over the phone by calling any Denver Public Library, calling our 24-hour automated renewal line at 303-691-0458, or through our website.
  • You may request to have items located at other Denver libraries sent to the branch nearest you for convenient pickup.  You can do this in person, over the phone, or on our website.
  • There is no charge to get on the reserve list for bestsellers.
  • There is a two-day grace period on late items -- if an item is returned one or two days after it is due, the computer automatically erases the late charge. If it is returned three or more days after it is due, the computer will remember forever.
  • Late fees are twenty cents per day, with a maximum late charge of $10 per item.
